Over the last 40 years, Seaboard Marine has established itself as a premier transportation company providing direct, regular service between North America, the Caribbean Basin, Central, and South America. Seaboard operates a fleet of over thirty vessels serving nearly forty ports, solidifying it's place as a trade leader in the Western Hemisphere.

Ironside has been supporting Seaboard Marine's innovative projects since 2015 beginning with a data warehouse build and then helping to establish their business intelligence platform. As Ironside evolved over the years to offer additional services, Seaboard took advantage of the new offerings through projects to include machine learning/artificial intelligence. When Seaboard Marine was considering additional evolutions for their operations they looked to Ironside.

Unladen shipping containers average about 4 tons. The maximum laden capacity of a sea going shipping container can range from 28-33 tons.  As can be imagined, coordination of heavy equipment and goods with weights such as these places a high level of pressure on accuracy when managing operations across thousands of nautical miles. When you add perishable goods, refrigeration equipment, United States Department of Agriculture requirements for minimum and maximum temperatures as well as close shipping and receiving windows on top of just the core logistics, you have a high-pressure environment that has to perform flawlessly.

Utilizing AWS and Ironside services Seaboard has taken on this challenge and successfully begun modernizing their data infrastructure, collection and use of the massive amounts of data associated with their operations. Ironside helped Seaboard to design and implement SES, Lamda, s3, Athena, AWS Control Tower and KMS to put in place a system that is able to ingest massive amounts of data, transform that data and parse that information into a database which has then been integrated into a Tableau reporting environment. This solution frees Seaboard's operators from manually touching each piece of data flowing into their systems and instead is able to autonomously receive, parse, process and report on conditions of thousands of shipping containers.
